0:00 When you create a free trial account with Asset Accountant,
0:03 you'll be offered the opportunity to explore a demo register that we've created for you,
0:08 or you can choose to create your own register for your own business or for a client.
0:14 Let's explore the demo register.
0:16 On the demo register page,
0:18 you have two options in which to view your assets.
0:21 The Asset Register tab is organized into asset groups.
0:26 This register has a group for buildings, capital works,
0:30 computer equipment, furniture and fittings, and so on.
0:34 At the top of the screen, you can easily pivot between the tax view and accounts view,
0:40 offering a snapshot for either of these regimes at any time.
0:44 The calendar selector allows you to easily switch between financial years,
0:49 year-to-date periods, quarters, and individual periods for your register.
0:55 Across the page based on your selection between tax or accounts view
1:00 and your nominated date range are opening balances,
1:03 in this case for the 1st of July 2025.
1:07 Any additions created within this period,
1:10 any depreciation that's accumulated,
1:12 disposals, and finally closing balances on the right.
1:17 Any of these columns can be expanded to show the details.
1:21 The tax valuation is broken down into cost,
1:24 accumulated depreciation, and tax value.
1:28 The search is accessible at the top right of your screen at any time.
1:33 If we were looking for an Audi, for example,
1:35 we could find that asset very quickly.
1:38 Select the asset name to view the details.
1:41 The first thing you'll notice is that the screen is divided into the tax view,
1:46 the accounts view, details view, and market value.
1:51 Scrolling down, we can see all of the transactions that have applied to this asset
1:56 in the past and those scheduled into the future.
2:00 In the details tab, we can apply classifications
2:03 such as locations or profit centres to our assets.
2:08 We can also apply custom fields such as licence plate number for a vehicle
2:13 and add attachments.
2:15 These may be links to a document management system,
2:18 PDF files, documents, or any other attachments you wish to upload.
2:24 The market value tab allows us to record market value data for relevant assets.
2:30 Returning to the tax view, the controls near the top of the screen
2:34 allow us to perform a number of actions across the entire asset
2:38 for both tax and accounts regimes.
2:42 These include adding components to new or existing assets made up of multiple parts,
2:48 adding quantities, transferring assets from one group to another,
2:53 adding additional costs, selling or writing off the entire asset,
2:58 or part of the asset.
2:59 For example, if you bought 100 laptops and later sold 20 of them,
3:04 you could record the asset as a single asset and then record a partial sale.
3:09 Within each of the tax and accounts views,
3:12 there is a second tier of actions that apply only to tax and accounts
3:17 respectively.
3:19 With respect to tax, in Australia for example, we can add reassessment,
3:24 transfer assets to a pool, create tax adjustments,
3:27 and add a reassessment for taxable use.
3:30 In the accounts view, we can record reassessments, revaluations, impairments,
3:37 and adjustments, and record a make good provision for right of use assets.
3:42 These settings vary according to jurisdiction,
3:45 but Asset Accountant supports IFRS, US GAAP, and multiple tax jurisdictions,
3:51 ensuring the options are always relevant to your jurisdiction.
3:56 The Assets tab is an alternative view of your assets.
4:00 Instead of displaying asset by asset group, assets are listed in a single view,
4:06 which is very handy when looking for a particular asset.
4:09 For example, if we're looking for our laptop dock, it's easy to find.
4:14 We also have a number of filters you can apply to drill down to particular assets.
4:20 Columns displayed can be customised by selecting your preferred fields.
4:24 These can be exported.
4:26 A filtered list of assets can also be selected to pre-populate an upload sheet
4:31 for a range of bulk actions.
4:33 Returning to the main menu and selecting Add Assets,
4:37 there are three primary ways to add your assets.
4:41 First, you can manually add a single asset.
4:44 Second, you can pull in assets from integrated applications,
4:48 such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, and Sage.
4:51 Finally, you can import assets in bulk using the Import Wizard,
4:55 Bulk Acquisitions, and you can also import leases in bulk.
5:00 Asset Accountant also supports other bulk actions,
5:03 including bulk classification changes, bulk disposals,
5:06 bulk revaluations, and bulk reassessments.
5:10 For example, if a number of assets require a new tax treatment
5:14 at the start of a tax year, a bulk reassessment makes this very easy.
5:19 Next, we have journals.
5:22 Journals are easy to create and can be expressed in great detail.
5:26 In this example, a simple journal is created with all features selected.
5:31 Journals are grouped by asset groups, such as computer equipment,
5:35 furniture and fittings, etc.
5:38 We can also see the individual asset details
5:41 that form part of a depreciation expense claim.
5:44 Journals are further broken down by classifications, such as locations,
5:49 allowing more detailed postings to a general ledger or ERP platform.
5:54 Journals can be exported to Excel or CSV
5:58 and can also be posted directly to integration partners,
6:01 such as QuickBooks or Xero.
6:03 A broad range of reports are available for assets and leases.
6:07 Consolidated reports are also available for certain report types.
6:13 Finally, we can look at organisation and register settings.
6:17 Organisation settings include your organisation name,
6:21 billing contact details, subscription details, and system users.
6:26 We have tags for easy look-up and bulk actions
6:29 for creating registers in bulk and sending user invitations in bulk.
6:34 Register settings include details such as jurisdiction,
6:38 currency, reporting year and accounting standards.
6:41 You can set up required financial year settings
6:44 and additional depreciation methods.
6:47 You can assign users to registers,
6:49 invite new users and apply appropriate permission levels.
6:54 Here you can also define classifications,
6:57 such as locations or profit centres,
6:59 manage integrations
7:01 and in supported countries such as Australia and the UK,
7:05 define asset pools.
7:07 This concludes a very brief overview of Asset Accountant.
